As an e-commerce merchant, you don't always keep all your items in one place. Your inventory can be spread over several different places, such as a warehouse, applications, or hidden in the trunk of a car... even your suppliers may have them at the time the customer makes a purchase.
Keeping track of what you're selling and where you're selling inventory can be a big challenge, and it can be complicated if you don't have the right tools in place.
Shopify's useful new locations tool, available to Shopify retailers in 2018, allows you to add, update and track your inventory across all sales channels - all in one place. With locations, you can now check your inventory and place orders from any of your locations by jumping to your computer or mobile device.
How does it work? Simply add a new location and assign inventory to it, and you're ready to go. Now you can easily track and adjust your inventory across all your locations. You can even have an item in multiple operations and update it when it runs out. You can also change the location to fulfill an order from anywhere, or split the shipment to fulfill items from different locations.
